Dear Mahesh
Thank you for your enquiry
about the status of the EC examinations.
Firstly, you should please
note that the examinations primarily exist to
ensure that engineers whose
education has not satisfied (for one reason
or
another) all the requirements
for acceptance as a Chartered Engineer,
have a
ready-made alternative route
to gain the missing requirements.
Secondly,
the passing of the EC examinations
does not result in a degree being
awarded. Although
the examinations have to be academic in nature, their
purpose is to uphold professional
standards.
A candidate who passes all
stages of the EC examination would, through
his/her Engineering Institute,
be sufficiently endowed with credential
to
apply for Chartered (CEng)
status (or at lower levels, for Incorporated
status (IEng)). CEng
is considered to exist at the same academic level
as
an Honours Engineering Degree,
and is recognised as such by the
Washington
Accord signed by Japan,
South Africa, Australia, Canada, United Kingdom,
United States, New Zealand
and Ireland.
If you have access to the
Internet and want to know more, may I suggest
that
you look at our web site,
click on 'Site Map Search' and search for
Washington Accord, or else
search for FEANI. These references should
give
you a better insight into
the international aspects of engineering
qualifications.
Thank you for your information
that the All India Council of Technical
Education does not recognise
our examinations. I shall contact them in
due
course to see what substance
underlies this problem.
Yours sincerely
Chris Harrison
